Chinese suspected to be behind hacking of two Indian IT companies

MUMBAI: Hackers, suspected to be based out of China, managed to break into two of India’s information technology firms recently, possibly chasing information on some American firms, two people aware of the development said.

One of the firms came to know about the cyber-attack on its servers within hours and was able to stop any data breach, but the other IT firm gathered about the attack — carried out between the last week of September and the first week of October — only a week later they said.

“The hackers were after the information of some American technology and pharma companies,” a person with a direct knowledge of the matter told ET.

  1. As long as sensitive data is on computers that are connected to the Internet, that data will be susceptible to theft. Such data should be kept on computers that are isolated from the Internet; i.e., that are physically disconnected.
